Incense

So there we were
Standing against the radiator for warmth
In your room with a beach hut view
And suddenly we could have been teenagers
Caught behind the school shed with a cigarette
Instead, in effect, we were behind the beach huts
You, leaning in close with a match
Showing me how to light my first joss stick
Rather than my first B&H
Taking in the heady scent, we watched the strip glow
And I realised, despite that winter’s day
My heart was glowing brighter still
